Skipping today’s session.

I woke up this morning with a little tenderness in my lower back.  I am very concerned about the potential for back injuries so I am skipping today’s workout to heal.  I’d rather have slower progress than take a risk.

I’m back to experiencing failure on bench press and overhead press.  I think I am making steady progress though as I am completing more reps before failure.  I have a trivial amount of soreness in my chest and upper arms that I only feel when I extend my arms.  I think that is a good sign.

Squat continues to progress well although I think that is where my lower back soreness originates.  I am going to start doing set four and five with a belt to add some support.  I think it is important to do the most rested sets without the belt to build core strength though.  Otherwise the belt becomes a crutch.

The workout I’m delaying to Friday includes deadlift which is another reason I’m taking it easy on my back.  I’m still working on developing proper form with that lift.  I’ve found that my biggest error is not squatting down deeply enough.  I need to go significantly past breaking parallel to lift with my legs instead of my back.  That is improving but I need more practice at a low weight.

I have lost some discipline in my diet and have been over eating twice or more a week.  The good news is my weight is more less stable anyway.  Perhaps, my metabolism is already moving upward with the lifting.  I am hopeful.

Devour your prey raptors!

Bro, do you even lift?

Never miss another opportunity to devour prey!

Ugh, I tweaked my back too. Slathered some icy hot on and did extra warmups and it was ok for lifting, but still hurts. Either the lat or erector, right at the spine. Getting old sucks.

Believe it is not, sit ups have done wonders for my lower back pain.

Lifting gear is similar to exercise machines. They’ll allow you to move more weight, but some parts of the chain won’t strengthen. In this case, your core. You want to strengthen the weakest part or you’ll end up with a Ferrari engine in a Nissan Micra.

If your hips are weak, they won’t allow you to go deep on the squat. You’ll then compensate by bending forward to lower your head since that’s what you use as a depth measurement.

Right. I lifted today and did three sets of squats without the belt and last two with. Basically, I focus on core strength while I’m more or less rested and take a safety precaution when I’m fatigued. I also did warm up sets without the belt. I’m congnizant of the need to strengthen my core.
