Houston got over 5 inches of rain since last night.  The weather kept me from getting to the gym for my regularly scheduled Wednesday session until about 430 PM.  I had a pretty good session.  Squat is progressing nicely.  Bench press was a failure on 5th set at 70 pounds.  It’s funny.  I used to use the chest press machine and could do 155 to 20 reps easy.  When you have to balance the weight yourself and control your own movement, it is a lot harder.  But I feel it in my chest that I’m making more progress this way.

Bent over row is progressing nicely.  I still struggle mightily with overhead press and have failed 3-4 workouts in a row at 45 pounds.  I hope to break the plateau on Friday.  Weight is pretty good as I’m staying well below 200 pounds without starving myself.  Waist-line has some progress since the 200+ pound days but has otherwise stalled.

I like the Strong Lifts 5×5 program a lot so far.  Plenty of rest between sets, short workouts, and no mind numbing marathon cardio sessions.  My new hero was at the gym today.  An older black man (about late 50’s) was doing deadlifts with 6 big boy plates on each side.  That’s 585 pounds by my math.  I bet he doesn’t have to eat like a bird to maintain his pants size!
